How to Combat Fatigue and Distraction in your Office Environment

by TrueNorth Desks

For many of us, it’s a daily struggle to stay focused and productive. Distractions constantly rear their ugly heads, and invite us to shift gears and get less done. One of the major distractions that affect employees during the workweek is exhaustion. We often invite too much into our days and weeks, and find ourselves struggling to keep up. At TrueNorth, we believe that ergonomic corporate furniture plays a big role in creating energy throughout the week. By utilizing furniture that positively affects your body, you leave more room for energy to be spent on tasks, errands, family time and creative pursuits. Here is How to Combat Fatigue and Distraction in your Office Environment:

Quality Foods

One of the most important ways that you can combat fatigue during the workweek is to be sure you are eating healthy foods with quality ingredients. It’s easy to get started on something in January, but harder to keep it up in February. Make plans this month to prepare your lunches for each work day, and take time at your standing desk to rest and eat your healthy meal. It’s also important to keep healthy snacks around as you get used to your standing desk. We recommend that you stand at least four hours each day, and the features of our programmable, sit to stand desks allow you the autonomy to make your individualized choices. You’ll burn more calories standing than sitting, so it’s important to keep healthy fuel around your space to keep you going.

Stick to Routine

It’s important that you find ways to generate routine throughout the week. Fatigue is more likely to creep up on you while working at your standing desk if you are operating under a chaotic or out of the ordinary schedule. Use a daily agenda and monthly calendar to remind you of when and where you need to be each day. Since our standing desks are easily adjustable, create patterns for yourself that allow you to adjust the height of your desk at the same time each day.

Lighting Matters

Lighting has a very significant effect on our energy levels throughout the day. Poor lighting, dim rooms, or too-bright yellow overhead lighting can all drain energy throughout the day. Natural lighting is always best, but if you are unable to utilize this lighting source while at your standing desk, then use table lamps, lanterns and light strands to offset the heavy glare of overhead lighting.

Posture and Performance

One of the biggest contributors to distraction tends to be discomfort. If you are uncomfortable at work, you are going to look for things to distract you and allow you the chance to get up and move around. Be sure to use ergonomic office furniture and accessories while at work. Some of these items can be prescribed by a physician, and the costs can be subsidized. Employers want to keep quality employees happy, so don’t be timid about asking for what you need.
