How to get the Most out of your Standing Desk

by TrueNorth Desks

Working at a standing desk is one of the best ways to improve your health, increase your energy, and boost your creativity. But there are a few rules you need to follow when you are working at a standup desk in order to get all of the amazing benefits. Take a look at some tips from us at True North Desks on how to get the most out of your standing desk.

Allow time for the transition

If you are planning on moving from a traditional sitting desk to a standing workstation, your body will need some time to adjust. With the excitement of finally working at a standing desk, you may be ready to jump all in and stand for the entire day. But take advantage of working at an adjustable height desk and ease your body into standing at work. Take it slow the first week and work your way up to standing more each day.

Get comfortable

Working at a standing desk does not mean that you will be uncomfortable all day. Your desk should be at the proper height, allowing you to view your computer with your neck and head in a neutral position. Standing desks should also be at a level where you will not be tempted to lean on your elbows or slouch while you work. Lastly, be sure to have an ergonomic chair or standing stool to give your feet and legs a break as needed.

Organize and accessorize

In order to be your most productive and creative, your standing desk should be organized and clutter free. Keep storage drawers underneath your desk in order to keep papers and folders organized and out of the way until you need them. For good lighting, set a floor lamp by your standing desk. This will allow you to have that extra light you need to keep your eyes from getting tired, but won’t take up too much space on your desk.

Make it beautiful

Any space where you spend a lot of time should be a warm and welcoming environment, even your office. There are some simple ways to make your standing desk a space that you can enjoy. Hanging plants or a tall potted plant next to your stand up desk can help clear the air and even improve your mood. If your office is relaxed about how you decorate, you can lay a small area rug or mat underneath your desk for a pop of color. Add a few personal touches to your standing desk, such as a picture or two, or some beautiful books.
