How to Maximize Productivity at Your Home Office Standing Desk

by TrueNorth Desks

No matter where you are working, at home, a corporate office, or a shared office space, you want each day to be as productive as possible. You really want your time to be well spent so that your time off can be truly relaxing.

But working from your standing desk at home comes with its own set of challenges. It is easy to become distracted when you are at home rather than an office. You may have pets who want to play or go out, children who want your attention during the day, or friends and neighbors who just don’t understand that you need your space when you are working from home. We at True North Desks have come up with a few tips on ways keep your days at your standing workstation productive, even with the distractions that home life can bring.

Location, location, location

The location of your home office is the first and most important issue to tackle. You need to be in a low traffic area, preferably with a door. Keeping the door closed during the day helps you to avoid distractions and helps others from distracting you.

If you do not have a separate room for your home office, then find a corner of a room that other people in your household are unlikely to use during your working hours.

Lists are important

Making lists of your tasks each day is a great way to be sure that you will be productive and get everything accomplished. When you are working in a formal office setting, you are more likely to get things done because you may have reminders from coworkers. But at home, time may slip away from you more easily. Keep a list at your standup desk each day of everything that needs to be done, and mark it off when it is completed. That small sense of accomplishment can help you feel productive and more energized for the next task.

Dress like you are going to the office

While you do not have to put on a suit and tie or wear your heels while you work from home at your stand up desk, you should still dress for the day. It may seem too easy to wander out of bed, grab your coffee, and get to work while still in your bathrobe. But what if you get an email scheduling a last minute video call? You will certainly wish that you had showered and dressed already. Plus, being dressed to work will help you feel more professional, allowing you to work in a more professional and productive manner.

Schedule breaks

The truth is, you need breaks during your day, whether you are working at an office or at home. Schedule your breaks from your adjustable height desk to give your eyes a rest from screens and your brain a rest from your work. Keep a good book handy, do some standing desk exercises, or step into the kitchen for a quick snack and a fresh cup of coffee. Your mind and your body will appreciate the breaks, and you will feel more relaxed and productive knowing that those breaks are scheduled into your day.
Whether you work from home or at an office, working at a standing desk is one way to increase your creativity and productivity.
