We all know that work can take a lot out of you. Whether it is mentally, physically, or emotionally, or all of the above, we could all use a breather during the day. Working at a standing desk is sure to leave you feeling more energized and productive than if you worked at a traditional sitting desk. But what if you used your lunch break to relax and take your mind off of your work? You may get a full hour for lunch everyday, but how often do you use it? Most of us are used to eating quickly and jetting back to your standing workstation. Or even worse, you may sit at your adjustable height desk to eat your lunch, and never really get a break. While that may be necessary on occasion, it is better if you take a quick mental break.
We at True North Desks want to encourage you to use your lunch break for a little fun, too. Here are a few classic board game suggestions to keep in the break room. Gather some friends a few times a week, or everyday if you are up for it, and get your game on while you eat your lunch.
Of course, we had to start with a classic game. Monopoly is a game that we are all familiar with, so you won’t have to take any time explaining the rules to your coworkers. Gather a few players and start out on a game of Monopoly. You may not be able to finish your game during one lunch hour, so find a place to stow your board for the next day. Having a game to finish will be a fun thing to look forward to during the week.
Another classic, and one that does not need explaining. Scrabble is a great way to get your mind off of work, but still use your brain. Keep score over multiple games to see how can accrue the most points over a month. Making the game of Scrabble a little more competitive is a fun way to distract yourselves from the office pressures.
Another classic, Trivial Pursuit also has specialty editions. This classic trivia game can be fun for anyone in the office. You may be surprised by the random knowledge of your coworkers!
Ok, so Jenga is technically not a board game, but it is a fun one to play during your lunch hour. If you really need a mental break, then Jenga is your answer. It does not take up too much space, can be played with multiple people, and you can easily eat your lunch in between turns.
Again, not a board game, but keeping a deck of cards or 2 in the office is a great idea. You and a friend can play a quick game of double solitaire or grab other coworkers for gin. You’ll be surprised to find out how many games you can really play with cards. Ask your coworkers to teach their favorite games, too. Cards are easily stored at your stand up desk, so they will always be available for a quick game.
Spending your lunch hour doing something fun will make your day so much better. Working at standing desks is another way to be sure you can maintain the energy you need to make it to 5:00. True North Desks has several desk styles to choose from. Request our brochure to find out which one is right for your career needs.
