Refreshing Summer Drinks to Sip on at your Standing Desk

by TrueNorth Desks

Summertime is heating up, which means it is time for you to find ways to cool down. Even if you are keeping it cool in your office working at your standup desk, an afternoon drink can be a fun treat to look forward to. A cool drink is also a great way to avoid that mid-afternoon fatigue we often feel. But if your office is not hosting a happy hour today, you can still have a fun (non-alcoholic) drink while working at your stand up desk.

So here are a few drinks that are easy to make and are sure to help you feel like you’re transported to a beach, even if just for a few moments.

Lemonade

Of course, we had to start with a classic summer drink. But this lemonade is way better than the stuff you used to sell at your lemonade stand for 50 cents a cup. This recipe will make enough for you to share with a few friends.

Ingredients: 3 cups cold water, 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice, ¾ cup of sugar, ice cubes, lemon slices for garnish

Stir together the water, lemon juice, and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Serve over ice and with lemon slices.

Tropical Smoothie

If you are craving a fruit daiquiri, but still have some hours to put in at the office, enjoying a tropical smoothie is the next best thing.

Ingredients: ½ cup of peeled, cut mango, ½ banana, ⅓ cup of pineapple juice, 1 tablespoon of lime juice, ½ cup of ice cubes

Blend all ingredients, adding the ice a little bit at a time until you get the desired consistency.

Sweet Tea

You really can’t go wrong with this Southern classic drink for an afternoon pick me up.

Ingredients: 4 large, family size tea bags, 16 cups of water, 1 ½ cups of sugar

Fill a teakettle or saucepan with enough water to completely cover all of the tea bags. Bring the water to a boil and remove from the heat. Let the tea stand for 10 minutes. Put the sugar into a gallon pitcher and add 1 cup of cold water. Stir to mix. Pour the hot tea into the sugar mixture and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the remaining 13 cups of cold water to fill the pitcher.

Each of these refreshing drinks can be made ahead of time and stored in your office’s refrigerator. You will love having some tasty refreshments at the ready on those afternoons when you need a cool pick me up. Your coworkers will also love being able to enjoy a drink or 2 at their standing desks during a long work day.
