Simple Ways to Help Relieve Stress (with Standing Desks & More)

by TrueNorth Desks

Most jobs induce some amount of stress; some more than others. We at True North Desks understand that stress is going to happen occasionally, even with a job you love, and even when you are working productively at a standing desk. Standing desks help you to be more creative, productive, and energized, which can certainly help decrease your stress level.

Below are a few more ways to manage your stress during the day.

Sit (or stand) up straight

We have all been told by mothers, teachers, aunts, and so forth to sit up straight. But as it turns out, our posture has a lot to do with how we feel at work. According to Andy Yap, a post doctoral associate and lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, standing up straight affects your mood. Correct posture can help you to feel more powerful. Sitting or standing while hunched over can cause you to feel more stressed. Correct posture at your standup desk will help you to feel powerful and productive, relieving stress as the day goes on.

Get organized and stay organized

We have mentioned many times the importance of keeping your standing workstation organized and clutter-free. An organized stand up desk allows you room to breathe and work without getting too distracted. Making lists is also another way to stay organized and on task. Clearing your mind and crossing off your to-do list can help you manage stress levels and feel accomplished, no matter how busy your day is.

Stay healthy

  • Exercise. Making healthy choices throughout your day has a lot to do with stress. Exercising regularly is a great start to your morning routine. If you simply do not have the time, take fun exercise breaks at your standing desk. Get your coworkers to join in on the fun. Bonding with those around you is another way to help you to feel happy at work.

  • Make healthy food choices. Eat a healthy breakfast, avoid heavy lunches, and make energizing snacks to eat at your stand up desk. Feeling more energized means that you will be able to get more done during your day. When you feel sluggish during that mid-afternoon slump, go for a quick walk or grab a cold glass of water. Get over the slump so you can get back to work.
  • Get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep after a day at your standing desk is key to staying healthy and warding off stress. If you do have stressful moments at work, feeling exhausted in addition to feeling stressed is going to compound negative feelings. Leave your work at work. Take some time to relax in the evenings and get enough sleep so that you can tackle the next day with a clear, rested mind.

We know that work can be stressful, so be sure to take time for yourself. Spend your weekends doing things that you love and that make you happy. Working at a standing desk helps you to keep up your energy levels and live a healthier lifestyle. Find the right standing desk for however you work from True North Desks.
